Gastrointestinal (GI) Department

Starr County Memorial Hospital provides high-volume, reliable outpatient Gastroenterology (GI) services three times a week.

Expert GI Team: We are proud to feature a team of highly experienced Gastroenterologists, including Dr. K. Ahsan(serving Starr County for over 15 years) and regular weekly visits from Dr. Herrera.

Key Procedures Offered: Our services include critical procedures like endoscopies, colonoscopies, and feeding tube insertions.

Patient Instructions

Scheduling: Patients are asked to register no more than one week before the procedure date.
Check-In: Bring your doctor's order and report to the Admitting (Front Desk) for check-in and initial instructions.
Pre-Op Orders: Your specific preparation instructions (e.g., dietary, fasting) will be provided by your physician. Patients on blood thinners (anticoagulants) must receive clear direction from their doctor on when to stop medication.
Outpatient: Procedures are typically completed on an outpatient basis without an overnight stay (dependent upon patient condition).
Discharge: Detailed home care instructions will be provided by the physician and nurse before you leave.
